Overview
This nationally accredited course has been developed by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) through its joint initiative with the Australian Diabetes Society (ADS), the National Association of Diabetes Centres (NADC). It is endorsed by both ADEA and ADS. It is designed to give you the underlying skills to support best practice management of diabetes in the general care setting. This program is an accredited unit of competency (NADC001A Course in Diabetes Management in the General Care Setting) and will result in a Statement of Attainment at a level equivalent to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level 3.However, please note that this program is not the equivalent of the postgraduate university qualification requirement to become a credentialed diabetes educator
It is delivered in a flexible online format that enables you to complete the knowledge components in a sequential manner, at your own pace. As part of the formal assessment process, you will be required to complete workplace and other relevant activities before submitting your portfolio for assessment. Assessment will be undertaken by a Credentialled Diabetes Educator.
Objectives
This course covers a broad range of topics and issues surrounding the management of diabetes in a general care setting including, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Introduction to Diabetes
- Lifestyle issues
- Diabetes Medication
- Chronic Complications
Duration
It is anticipated that you will take between 2 -3 hours to complete each module, plus up to four weeks to complete the formal assessment component.
