Trade Practices – An Introduction
Learn how to ensure fair and honest competition is maintained, and how to protect the rights of consumers, businesses and the community. This course introduces you to the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth) (TPA). Using everyday language, real-world examples, and adapted from ACCC materials and leading TPA cases, this course aims to build a general awareness of your obligations under the law. As the course provides general information and is not tailored to your particular circumstances, it should not be treated as legal advice. Course Objectives

- Identify the main objectives of the TPA and the role of the ACCC.
- Identify what constitutes a breach of the Consumer Protection Provisions of the TPA, including deceptive or misleading conduct, and false or misleading representations.

- Identify who can be prosecuted for the breach of the TPA.
- Identify the penalties and other remedies applicable to a breach of the TPA.
